New England Rail Service, Inc.
began as a supplier of hobby items in November 1964. After working with other
importers on the design of HO scale models patterned after New England
prototypes, N.E.R.S. became an importer in its own right in 1984. Our purpose
was, and continues to be, to provide modelers with the most highly accurate
reproductions possible of a number of otherwise unavailable prototypes,
particularly to those of us who model New England as it was in the 1940's and
1950's. Some much needed models were those of the heavyweight Pullman cars so
popular here in that era. Thus the first item in what has become our Pullman
Parts line was introduced in 1986, since which time the line has grown with
the introduction of approximately one new part per year.
The window items in our Pullman Parts line are
specifically designed to enable modelers to convert the Rivarossi/AHM 12-1
Pullman sleeper into other Pullman car types. These range from other Pullman
sleeper types to parlors, lounges, diners and even Pullmans constructed
coaches. While a desire for needed New England prototype models brought our
entry into this field, Pullman of types found in all parts of North America can
be kitbashed using our parts. Our underbody detail parts are useable on almost
any type of Pullman constructed passenger equipment. We offer the correct
Pullman 145 gal. pressurized water tank and the 8 cell battery box found on
most Pullman heavyweight cars. In addition we offer a universal air
conditioning duct kit and the underbody parts to equip your HO scale Pullman
heavyweight with an ice activated, mechanical or electro-mechanical air
conditioning system. Parts for a steam ejector A/C system should be available
within the next year.

In 1999 our subsidiary,
The Standard Car Company was formed and introduced its first product,
the #1000 ½ Door Add-on Kit. This kit was specifically designed to
quickly and easily convert the Accurail #4000 series outside braced 40 ft.
boxcar from a single door to a 1½ boxcar. While 1½ door boxcars
were very common during the steam and transition era of railroading in North
America, they are extremely rare in model form. Thus this kit can be used to
fill that void and produce a prototypically accurate model very quickly and
easily.
All items are manufactured to the highest standards working, in
most cases, from original blueprints backed up with confirming measurements and
photographs of the various prototypes to maintain our reputation for accuracy
and quality. Most are injection molded from high quality styrene in regular
injection molding tooling to ensure their continued availability and maintain
all dimensions accurately.
We are proud of the fact that many Pullman modelers have written
to advise us that they were replacing the underbody detailing on their imported
brass Pullman cars with our parts because they were more accurate than what
came on the models.
At this time all items are in HO scale only.
