Passenger Detail Parts
Some of you may remember that not long after
we introduced our #210 Pullman Interior Vestibule Wall we experienced an
unprecedented, for us, supply problem with that one item. This part was
basically an afterthought that was developed to make productive use of space on
another mold base that otherwise would have gone unused. Never in our wildest
dreams did we expect the demand experienced with this item. For that reason a
new mold dedicated only to that part was completed two years ago. We are happy
to report that there have been no supply problems with the part since that mold
was completed. Now a supply problem has developed with our #211 Pullman 5 ft. 6
in. Baggage Door! Since this item was also one from a combination mold, tooling
for a new mold to produce this door and another is expected to commence
shortly. This new mold will produce both the current 5 ft. 6 in. baggage door
and an 8 ft. double baggage door that should eliminate any supply problems with
the #211 door and enable us to add another needed baggage door as well.
The #216 8 ft. Baggage Door has been pattered
after a type of baggage or express door used by a number of roads requiring
doors of such width. While our #216 will be molded as one piece, the prototype
consisted of two three-panel doors, each just over four feet in width that
closed against one another and provided an open width of eight feet when both
were fully opened. Doors of such width were highly preferred by those roads
handing large or bulky express shipments that needed men on both sides to get
them into, or out of, the cars. One immediate use of such doors will be to
improve the appearance of the near 8 ft. double doors of the Rivarossi baggage
car and the Rivarossi baggage-RPO cars. B & M modelers can take a Rivarossi
baggage car, remove a piece from its center, reducing the length to 64 ft. 6
in., and replace its doors with our #216 doors to kitbash a B & M #3200 -
#3205. Many other roads had similar cars of varying lengths. Scratch- builders
will also find these doors quite useful. Photos of a Rivarossi - B & M
#3200 series conversion can be found in the Gallery section of this website. In
fact, if you have never viewed the
Gallery
section of our website we urge you to do so. A number of completed cars
that can be constructed using our conversion kits can be seen in the gallery,
both sides of the car in most instances, in addition to other kitbashes and
cars that might give you a few ideas.
#253 Pullman Sump Tank & Pump
Lastly, we will soon add a new part to those already offered for the Pullman
Ice Activated A/C system. This will be our #253 Pullman Sump Tank & Pump at
a retail price of $4.95 per pair. The Sump Tank & Pump housing will be our
first part done in molded resin, a medium we expect to use for some other
detail parts to offer a Steam Ejector A/C system in the future. This part,
however, has been needed to complete the package of parts needed for a full Ice
Activated A/C system. Click on the image to enlarge it.
